Book Description
Through detailed case studies Ragnar shows you how carpenters, woodcutters, farmers, housecleaners, computer consultants, mechanics, lawyers, vendors, locksmiths and others are cashing in on today's booming economy - and keeping what they earn by not paying taxes. From these undergrounders you'll learn how to locate work, get paid without supplying identifying numbers, prepare a realistic budget, advertise your services or product and finance your project when you can't go to the bank. You'll also learn the pitfalls of working off the books and what you can do to prepare for them.
Customer Reviews:
check it out at the library first!.......2006-03-23
I'm not sure what I was expecting but this book read like old articles in Mother Earth News. I don't know where the author lives but the suggestion for businesses have been done to death around here for quite a few years so that leaves you with his "wisdom" such as; don't throw money around or keep a low profile to the government or to neighbors if you are operating a business out of your home...whoa...just slightly obvious well worn ideas. I was hoping for new thinking on finding niches in order to make a living, not suggestions that I take a marginal at best, business collecting pine cones or working on cars in my backyard and not blow my cover by buying a mercedes with cash! Duh! Save your money.
Ragnar's Guide to the Underground Economy.......2001-10-01
Uncle Ragnar has come out with another terrific masterpiece! I virtually read this book cover-to-cover and put it down once for dinner. Nothing Mr. Benson had to say surprised me with the American mindset of today. He teaches you how to play the game, which most people aren't willing to do. It takes a lot of sacrifice to learn and then keep your mouth shut. I'm not admitting to anything here, because "others" will read this review, but I will say that if you're a "protester" you will love this book and how it lays out in detail the means of survival, which is something most Americans should know anyway. This stuff they won't teach you in high school. I've always said it's good to learn another trade skill. This book definitely disproves basic barter books which lend credo to the "money" system. The money system is fiat and we all know that. The reason "money" was used to replace "barter" and "scrip" was because the government [vis a vie the banks] wanted to set up shop to keep control of our lives. Substituting fiat money for something of real value [your labor] is in ingenious way of not only equating your labor with value [as the taxman sees it] but puts us all on an even keel with the economic "store of value". Ragnar does play in the money supply, but that's part of today's game. I can't wait for him to write an epic on bartering, where one human being will be forced to trade [like Karl Hess] in order to avoid complete taxation and NWO tactics. Five stars for this work! It's a great stepping-stone to underground living. I can't help but agree more ... if you're going to do this kind of thing, you're definitely NOT going to tell anyone you're doing it!
Good advice but a little short.......1999-02-12
While I agree that people should learn a secondary trade to have something to fall back on if the economy goes down the tubes, I do not like to place honest hard working people in the same category as "underground" merchants. This book is excellent for those of us who mindlessly followed the law for years and are fed up with unions, work permits and filing taxes. However, the REAL underground economy is much darker than simple tax evasion or "collecting syrup from maple trees" (a good idea nonetheless). What would have greatly enhanced this book would be sections on how to obtain things like apartments, used vehicles, and guns through shady channels. An especially good section would have been "How to contact and conduct business with smugglers and assorted "dealers." Otherwise, another good read from Uncle Ragnar.

Book Description
Coaching can be defined as helping others learn. And today, more and more trainers are being called upon to coach managers in today's "learning organizations."
With more than 30 empowering training programs, The Coaching Skill-Builder Activity Pack offers a unique range of material that helps managers and coaches improve their fundamental coaching skills. Participants will learn how to:
Become an excellent coach * develop relationships * switch perspectives * enhance rapport * identify criteria * create a motivating environment.
The Coaching Skill-Builder Activity Pack also includes expert commentary, forms to help participants reflect on their learning, and a facilitator's log.
Customer Reviews:
Practical resource.......2002-04-06
This learning resource is an excellent addition to any developers' library of materials. It has clear, practical advice on how to develop effective coaches as well as a collection of fine exercises. The exercises are mostly based around real life practice. Too often these kinds of collections are full of exercises that look fun to do but are disconnected from work. This pack does not fall in to that trap. The exercises are graded - from easy to use to those that are more advanced. However the authors give very clear guidance on how to use them and show some examples of how the exercises could be put together to create workshops on different aspects of coaching.
I would recommend this pack unreservedly. It meets a real need - organizations desperately need to develop the coaching capability of their managers and this material will really fill a gap in the market.
Very Valuable Material.......2002-03-29
I have found this material very valuable for developing managers as coaches. The big plus for me is that the exercises are mostly based around real work. I find that managers do not like artificial exercises that seem too disconnected from real work. Also the provision of the material for use in workshops is first rate. Finally I liked the fact that the authors have given guidance on how to put the materials together to produce a coherent workshop.
Excellent resource.......2002-03-26
This is an excellent resource for trainers. It has many original exercises as well as clear guidance on what to do with the matierla. Also the introductory material gives a clear jargon-free explanation of the value of coaching. It is the best on the market, as far as I can see.

Book Description
Once patronized primarily by the counterculture and the health food establishment, the organic food industry today is a multi-billion-dollar business driven by ever-growing consumer demand for safe food and greater public awareness of ecological issues. Assumed by many to be a recent phenomenon, that industry owes much to agricultural innovations that go back to the Dust Bowl era. This book explores the roots and branches of alternative agricultural ideas in twentieth-century America, showing how ecological thought has challenged and changed agricultural theory, practice, and policy from the 1930s to the present. It introduces us to the people and institutions who forged alternatives to industrialized agriculture through a deep concern for the enduring fertility of the soil, a passionate commitment to human health, and a strong advocacy of economic justice for farmers. Randal Beeman and James Pritchard show that agricultural issues were central to the rise of the environmental movement in the United States. As family farms failed during the Depression, a new kind of agriculture was championed based on the holistic approach taught by the emerging science of ecology. Ecology influenced the "permanent agriculture" movement that advocated such radical concepts as long-term land use planning, comprehensive soil conservation, and organic farming. Then in the 1970s, "sustainable agriculture" combined many of these ideas with new concerns about misguided technology and an over-consumptive culture to preach a more sensible approach to farming. In chronicling the overlooked history of alternative agriculture, A Green and Permanent Land records the significant contributions of individuals like Rex Tugwell, Hugh Bennett, Louis Bromfield, Edward Faulkner, Russell and Kate Lord, Scott and Helen Nearing, Robert Rodale, Wes Jackson, and groups like Friends of the Land and the Practical Farmers of Iowa. And by demonstrating how agriculture also remains central to the public interest-especially in the face of climatic crises, genetically altered crops, and questionable uses of pesticides-this book puts these issues in historical perspective and offers readers considerable food for thought.

Book Description
Human Genetics concerns the study of genetic forces in man. By studying our genetic make-up we are able to understand more about our heritage and evolution. Some of the original, and most significant research in genetics centred around the study of the genetics of complex diseases - genetic epidemiology.
This is the third in a highly successful series of books based on articles from the Encyclopedia of Biostatistics. This volume will be a timely and comprehensive reference, for a subject that has seen a recent explosion of interest following the completion of the first draft of the Human Genome Mapping Project. The editors have updated the articles from the Human Genetics section of the EoB, have adpated other articles to give them a genetic feel, and have included a number of newly commissioned articles to ensure the work is comprehensive and provides a self-contained reference.

Customer Reviews:
Complete Book of Wild Boar Hunting.......2007-05-25
This book is pretty comprehensive but not extremely well detailed. It is, I suppose, written for the beginner to intermediate level Hog Hunter. I was a little disappointed.
A Good Starter Read.......2006-02-02
This is a great book for new hog hunters and has several useful thoughts for the more experienced. Of the 216 numbered pages 203 have informative content. Within the 203 pages are 97 B&W photos. The photos range in viewable quality from good to poor with only 8 photos being so difficult for me to discern what I was looking at that they were useless to view, however, the remaining photos were much appreciated. Well worth the $18 I paid but I'd be disappointed had I paid the $26.95 sugg. retail. The author sounds like he has the knowledge and experience to improve on this book by going into more detail about hunting the American wild boar. Also, I would've liked more information dealing with anatomy and shot placement and could have done without the chapter on hunting warthogs. I found this book to be an enjoyable read and I'm glad I have it in my library.

Customer Reviews:
not so great, useful however.......2007-09-09
I agree with the previous reviewers: the phonetic pronounciations given in the book are quite rough. However, as I had no idea of Mongolian language, showing the written cyrillic text was helpful and a basis for learning from natives during my trip.
The Only Way to Communicate.......2007-08-03
This book is worth its weight and more in gold. I depended on this book so much during my 2 month trip to Mongolia, traveling the road less travelled. Don't go to Mongolia without this.
Disappointing.......2007-07-09
In the past year I have spent 6 months in rural Mongolia. I had the Lonely Planet Guide to Mongolia and The Lonely Planet Mongolian Phrasebook. First off, the Guide to Mongolia is excellent, my copy is basically falling to pieces I used it so much.
I was less pleased with the Phrasebook. I have some concerns about the pronunciation guide as given by other reviewers. The use of the "schwa" in Mongolian could be better described. I found the section on restaurants very poor. In the area where I was menus were in Mongolian only and the phrasebook was useless trying to decipher the menu. The phrasebook would be enhanced if the vocabulary list included a Mongolian-English section. If you come across a Mongolian word that you want to understand the phrasebook is not much use.
In its favour, the book is cheap, portable and is written in an easy style.
THIS BOOK IS JUST PLAIN WRONG!.......2007-06-18
I went to Mongolia twice in the past year, and I live with a Mongolian woman full time who is a well educated journalist. If one had to rely on this book, one would be in serious trouble. First off, the phrase "sain bainuu?" which is used as "hello", if you pronounced it the way this book says, you would be way off, and no one would be able to understand you. I hear the phrase every day, spoken by native Mongolians, and it sounds more like "sen benno". The book says to say "sayn baynoo". What's up with that? And then the pronunciations for the Mongolian cyrillic that it gives are not correct. So you'd be trying to read something and thinking you were smart with your little book, and when you tried to say it, you'd never be right. So as far as translating a few basic, written words, this book could be helpful. But don't attempt to pronounce anything the way they have it written. I can't believe this is the "best" book out there on this subject! They need to rewrite the pronunciation section with the supervision of an actual Mongolian speaker!
Small size needs small expectations... I suppose.......2006-02-22
This little phrasebook is not too bad... however, in some of the places cyrillic text is missing (can be good to have).
Missing some of very basic words as for example "head", "face" and others.
Missing also some shorter explanation about the persian script that was used mostly before, but in lot of places even today.
But again... if you have no clue at all about Mongolian language, this little book is pretty good to have.

this book always had fulfilled my expectations, its therapeutical reviews are excellent, I strongly recommend it for general practitioners and for internal medicine specialists
Conn's Current therapy.......2001-11-15
I have been using Conn's therapy for many years and have always been satisfied with the broad range of pertinent topics and the in depth review of them. I have found this book to be the most frequently referred to "manual' if you will, by all of my colleagues in Internal medicine. Each yearly edition has always been donated to the medical library at our hospital and is always thoroughly worn from use. I would easily rate it a 5 star reference.
