All you need for basic regression and such.......2007-02-16
This is a well organized text that is great to have on the shelf for making sense of your statistical output and for thinking about how to approach your research question. It's well written and neither too simple or impenetrable. A little short on statistical tables and diagnostics as compared to some of its peers.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent econometrics text book........2007-09-29
This is one of the better text books I have ever come across. If you need this for a class, feel lucky that your professor chose this and if you are buying it for "fun," pick this one.
I love econ!.......2006-11-06
This is a great book and will greatly benefit any econ major. It has definitly helped me this year and will continue to in the future. It is very easy to read and understand - an excellent addition to any collection.
How can a book cost this much?.......2006-03-04
The book is over priced and the software does not work with apples. The software also has data limitations. If you have large data sets the software will not work. For all the econ students out there, I would do everything possible not to buy this product. Go look for used version or you can find the internation verion on the wed for cheaper.
Customer Reviews:
Go-to book for regression analysis.......2005-07-01
Perhaps A.H. Studenmund wrote his book for economics students, but as a biomedical scientist, Using Econometrics is my go-to reference for applied regression analysis, period. I know of no other book on the subject that is more understandable, succinct and eaisly applied to real-world problems.
Very understandable introduction to econometrics.......2004-07-01
First of all I will admit, this is the only book I have read for econometrics. It was the book chosen by my professor for my eonometrics class while doing my undergraduate in economics. Having said that I recommend the book. I feel that it is a very good intro to a subject that can get weighted down in technical difficulties for the beginning student. Some people have complained about its lack of rigor or lack of proofs but I feel that is unjustified because all it really does is utilize statistical principles for economics. At my university, and I would assume most, stats was a prereq for this course and in stats you should cover the real nuts and bolts of statistical theory. This would give you your proofs and underlying understanding of the hands on approach this book gives for econometrics. I think that this book is good in that it does give, as it says, a practical guide to econometrics enabling the student to move on to the more analytically rigorous studies of the field. It doesn't overwhelm but leaves you with a foundational sense of understanding.
Fulfil expectations.......2003-07-09
That book goes straight to the point. First, the title of the book is 100% appropriate. It is about how to use econometrical tools in practice. Second, exercises are E-views oriented, which is also a good point given the user-friendly E-views interface. This book is a very good introductory book for applied econometrics. I've read some reviews criticizing the book for its novice approach and lack of theoretical ground. Well, I would have done so too IF AN ONLY IF the book title had been "Advanced Theory in Econometrics". But it is not!
Good Starting Point for Econometrics.......2003-05-31
In 2000, I wrote a review of this text. I still stand by my assertion that this is an excellent introduction to econometrics. One thing that I failed to mention in my 2000 review is that this book is good for people who have never seen econometrics in their life. Furthermore, don't expect to see proofs, theorems, etc. This book does not emphasize mathematics.
For a good introductory book that does incorporate calculus, some proofs, etc., get Gujarati's "Basic Econometrics" (not to be confused with Gujarati's "Essentials of Econometrics"). If you're only going to have one introductory book, and you want a mathematical treatment, get Gujarati. If you want an introductory book without a mathematical treatment, get Studenmund.
Warning.......2002-12-24
This is to econometrics what Lego is to housebuilding. Harsh, perhaps, but this book should be read as a primer before stepping in to the heavy stuff.

A good idea, but overly equation-oriented.......2004-10-13
This book represents a noble attempt to put together biological and medical applications for introductory physics courses. This is not just a good idea but really a necessity now that many students in these classes are pre-medical (at least in the US). Certainly it represents an excellent source of problem material for those who want to create an intro physics course that has relevance to future doctors and biologists.
Unfortunately, most of the examples are "set-ups" in which a biological system is used as a wrapper for an equation the students are expected to have memorized. For example, when discussing gravity, the book has a problem on a diving hawk (hawks dive by essentially going into free-fall), in which the students are expected to use (1/2) a t-squared, but for which the students are not expected to estimate the effects of air resistance or assess the realism of the physical situation. I.e., the book contains standard plug-and-chug physics problems in biomedical clothing.
It would be nice to see a book that helps students to learn, on their own, how to identify the relevant physics in a biomedical situation. I can't fault this book overly, since there are essentially no examples of what I am looking for, in either the physics or the bio textbook worlds, save for Steven Vogel's outstanding Biomechanics book (highly recommended).
Well structured book.......2003-10-27
This book has a good content structure for anyone who want to study biomedical applications of physics. For biophysics and first year medical students, this book used in conjunction with a standard calculus or algebra physics book, will be a big help on a better understanding and application of Physics.

A biophysical reflexion about life.......2000-08-08
If you are looking for a bed-night story, that gives you an insight to all general aspects of life from a biochemist point of view: its possible origins, structure of the macromolecules which forms organisms, reactions and interactions to form larger complexes with biological functions, etc. You just found it! Although you need some experience, the book is quite light. Not a lot of concentration is required, just interest to understand living systems. It helps, the fact that it's resembles a literature book because of it's size and number of pages. Also, it has lots of diagrams, pictures and schemas that facilitate the comprehension of such a difficult subject. Until now is the only science book I have read which is perfect for bed-night reading. Even thought I was hoping for something different when I bought it, I enjoyed it. That's why it must be noticed: "Introductory Biophysics" it's not a complete textbook of biochemistry nor Biophysics. I consider that the objective of the authors is not providing a book to obtain technical references, but invite you to integrate all the knowledge you may have about biological sciences in order to reflect about the existence and function of life.

Book Description
This book deals with two fundamental issues of ion channels – the gating kinetics problem and the nano-scale ion permeation problem. The gating kinetics problem seeks to explain how to construct probabilistic models for the on-off switching of ion channels. The second part of the book deals with the permeation problem, which seeks to explain how individual ions propagate through the membrane nano-tube at an Angstrom unit spatial resolution and femto-second time scale.

Power Golf for Women.......2006-02-01
Excellent book on how to get more power in your swing for hitting great golf shots. Many diagram and suggestions to help hitting the ball longer and straighter.
Good golf instruction........2004-11-30
I liked the techniques on how to hit the ball longer. It helped me add some yardage to my drives. Another book that I also love is the following:
The Ultimate Golf Instruction Guide: Key Techniques for Becoming a Zero Handicap Golfer or Better (isbn;1933023090)
This second book helped me so much with hitting the ball with more control with driver, short irons, long irons and the short game. Since using this book, I lowered my handicap about 8 strokes. I now can score in the low 80's with ease. At the rate I'm improving, I know its possible for me to be a scratch golfer by using the techniques from The Ultimate Golf Instruction Guide. Power Golf for Women taught me how to hit the ball longer. The Ultimate Golf Instruction Guide taught me how to hit the ball at any target I choose with a much higher degree of accuracy.
Golf is Great.......2002-03-20
This book is terrific! If you like this book, I also recommend Golf is a Game of Confidence by Kathryn C. Wilder, Ph.D. et. al.
An absolute Gem of a book.......2001-02-18
I was impressed with this author's book Golf is a Woman's Game, but Power Golf for Women is an absolute gem. Once again as I stated in my review for Golf is a Woman's Game, this book applies to men as well. I do believe this one will end up one of golf's finest books.
Great book, really helped.......2000-01-24
I received this book for Christmas and it has really helped my swing. I've been working on my swing at an indoor driving range ( I figure winter is the time to get ready for the spring) and my distance has improved about 15 yards with my driver. But most importantly I now understand what I should do. Before I had tried everything from driving my hips, legs, etc. even bought new clubs. Now I understand all that I was working on was actually hurting my distance.
I highly recommend this book and have given a few copies to my friends. I was going to purchase more only it is soldout at the publisher. Looks like more than just me found this book to be helpful. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Great for learning to teach ESL writing.......2004-07-16
As an ESL teacher trainer, I have used this book in a course on how to teach ESL writing. My students read through the entire book and worked through all the exercises in several chapters. They found it very helpful and practical for getting the main idea of how to teach ESL writing, how to present and practice skills, how to organize instruction. Like most ESL textbooks, there are topics included in this one which aren't my first choice (why do we often give ESL students cheery topics like capital punishment, euthanasia, etc?), but overall I think the authors have done an excellent job of demystifying the writing process, both for teachers and students. The text deals with the writing process, rhetorical modes, and grammar. Very balanced.

Customer Reviews:
Practical pulmonary pathology by Leslie.......2006-11-15
Excellent text--very readable in a pattern-oriented approach. Would highly recommend for someone wanting basics plus on lung pathology.
An excellent resource.......2006-03-31
I have used this book about 6 months in conjunction with all the "other" pulmonary path books (including the WHO). On difficult cases, I find this text more than any other useful and practical but encyclopedic enough for my daily needs. It reads much better than the nonneoplastic AFIP book, and the concepts are much easier to apply. The tables are great, and I have used it for some IHC questions (although Immunoquery.com is another great and frequently updated resource). I have not seen the brand new Churg 3rd edition to compare, but for less than $300, you've got to have Wick on your shelf.
Great all-in-one pulmonary pathology book.......2005-07-15
'Practical pulmonary pathology' is just that - the most practical pulmonary book I have found. I am a pathology resident and wanted a concise, well-documented, all-inclusive lung book - and this is it. I especially like the infectious disease and medical lung chapters. The pictures are really good and illustrative. Furthermore, this book is organized in such a way that it is easy to thumb through and look up particular entities. I am quite happy with it.
Great for anyone with an interest in pulmonary pathology.......2004-11-03
For any physician involved with lung biopsies or lung specimens, this book is a must! Lavishly illustrated, meticulously referenced, with scholarly text and very clear pictures, you will be using it for years. I am a hematopatholgist without too much knowledge of lungs and often need help with lung specimens. This book is very good for that. Need pictures for education or conferences? This book is a wonderful resource. Good for pathologist and pulmonologists alike. It's expensive but as pathology books go these days, it's a good value.
Best available desk help.......2004-10-21
This is the best book to help a practising pathologist to sign out lung surgical and medical specimens. Finally a book that shows, explains and has conceptual grouping of pathology of the lung in a manner now seen in so many outsdanding books in other disciplines of pathology (skin or gi come to mind). Complete, helpful, completely illustrated. I will not need the other 6 textbooks that are gathering dust on my shelf any more. Expensive? perhaps but in line with the cost (exorbitant) of all good pathology books (will we ever see something good for less than 200$ anymore?).
